From its beginning, the Carlisle Area Health & Wellness Foundation has been firmly committed to promoting good health policies, being involved in the public policy process and supporting the advocacy efforts of community agencies.
The Foundation's Public Policy Committee (PPC) contains both Board and non-Board members, including healthcare professionals, lobbyists and government officials.
Public Policy Activities
Legislative Advocacy
The Board of Trustees of the Carlisle Area Health & Wellness Foundation has taken the 501(h) option under the Internal Revenue Code. Section 501(h) allows non-profit organization’s to calculate their spending limits related to advocacy on legislative issues. This illustrates our commitment to being an active, responsible participant in developing public healthcare policy. The Foundation’s volunteers and staff, through the Public Policy Committee, maintain regular contact with elected officials and other government representatives, including:
• Developing ties with policy makers on the local, state and national levels.
• Holding individual meetings with area elected officials to discuss health issues.
• Contacting public officials on a variety of health issues and/or legislative proposals.
• Sponsoring an annual Legislative Breakfast & Briefing in collaboration with other local nonprofit organizations.
Position Papers
| We continue to develop position papers on health-related issues. Each position paper is based on current research and national models, as well as the Foundation's own studies and task force recommendations. The following CAHWF position papers are available at this time: |

Training
We have sponsored several trainings on advocacy for nonprofit organizations that were presented by the Alliance for Justice on advocacy for nonprofit organizations.
The Carlisle Area Health & Wellness Foundation will continue to monitor the policy landscape and to provide assistance and information for those involved in shaping health policy. You can find additional information about health policy issues and advocacy on the Resources page on this website.
